I chose this program, as my close friend highly encouraged me to do it. I had always wanted to study abroad in Spain, and when I heard that EGL had a program in Salamanca, I didn’t think twice to apply.

I had the most incredible immersion experiences. Living with a host mom allowed me to better my Spanish, learn about the Spain culture through food, music, etc., and overall get a better understanding of how Spain operates. It was the most fulfilling thing to be a part of.

Historic sandstone buildings and a cathedral dome in Salamanca, Spain, viewed from a narrow street with wrought iron balconies and cypress trees. The architecture features ornate stone carvings and classical European design under a clear blue sky.

During my time abroad, I was able to experience class settings that were fully in Spanish. It really challenged me out of my comfort zone, and forced me to immerse myself in ways I never thought I could before.

I now have a whole new perspective on the work it takes to do things internationally. From culture and language barriers, it definitely takes a lot of time and practice to adjust to things abroad.

My most memorable moment was probably my first time walking into La Plaza Mayor with my friends. We were star struck at it’s beauty, and knew studying abroad here was going to be more than incredible.

Immerse yourself as much as you can! Do not be embarrassed to try to speak the language or understand the culture. Give it everything you have.
